“Shame dies when stories are told in safe places.” – Ann Voskamp
We often find ourselves stuck in unwanted patterns of relating to ourselves and others but are unsure why or how to choose differently. Many of these patterns are tied to the emotional wounds we have experienced throughout our lives. I believe healing is possible when we learn to engage our life stories from a place of curiosity and compassion, rather than shame or judgment.
I view counseling to be a place where this engagement can happen, and where the wounds within our souls can be identified and witnessed in the presence of empathy. When we share our stories in safety, the shame and pain we feel begin to have less power over us. By tending to our wounds, we find the strength needed to create healthier patterns in life.
My own story has been one of God meeting me in my brokenness, showing me his love, and his heart for healing. He has given me courage to face pain in my own life, which has led me to experience his freedom and peace. Out of my journey has come a deep desire and passion to help others, as they too, seek to find hope and healing in him. I have a special passion for coming alongside those who find themselves weary of continually striving for perfection, performance, and/or pleasing others, to make their lives work. No matter what you have been through, or why you are seeking counseling at this time, your story matters. It is my prayer that you feel seen and heard.
